Punishment for Cyber Crime in India SOURCE: CYBER TERROR Under The Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008, Cyber-terrorism is punishable with life imprisonment. Cyber offences such as identity theft, cyber-stalking, cyber harassment, spoofing and hacking are the punishable offences under this section. The IT (Amendment) Act, 2008 was passed by both Houses of Parliament on December 23, 2008. It was notified after the assent of the President on February 5, 2009.but in the recent past the amendments have raised the quantum of fine involved, but reduced the punishment…that gives out a mixed signal. More than 1000 young boys are languishing in jails across India for cyber crime, 573 of them are under trials, 197 are under investigations, 14 hospitalised due to various reasons, 12 of them are convicted, and rest of the cases are under proceedings.
